Old Exalted RPG Stuff

Sometime in the early 2000's I did some illustrations for Whilte Wolf Publishing's RPG, Exalted: The Dragon-Blooded and Caste Book: Twilight.

Interior. Scene of Horakinis spying on some Dragon-Blooded dudes.

Illustration for the spell "Stoneskin"

Interior art. Horakinis taking a stand against ... Werewolves? ... Cat people? I can't remember. I modified some of  their sizes since they were off by quite a bit. I scaled and shrunk to make it look less bad.

Lineup of the characters I designed off of descriptions.

Batgirl and Robin

Originally this was a study for a piece I was going to do for a friend. Ultimately it didn't happen but I still kind of liked the rough so decided to clean it up and put some tones on it. These were based off of the Young Justice design done by Phil Buorassa and slaughtered by my own incapability of drawing any other way.

Girl Concepts

Old concept work I did back in the late 90s for an online clothing store that is no longer existing. The concept, if I remember correctly, was they wanted a mascot avatar that would interact with it's customers as they navigated through the website.

They wanted a cute hip girl and sadly I know absolutely nothing about hipster fashion.

Alien vs Predator

AVP. An old Aliens vs Predator drawing I did back in the late 90s.  I can't for the life of me remember the comic book series where the Aliens had the numbers painted on their heads. I think it had scientists on a floating space lab. The Alien 4 movie took elements from that book.

Old Predator study.

Old Elf Stuff

I've decided to shut down itchstudios.com since I never update it anyways. With sites like Blogger and DeviantArt, it makes posting art faster, easier, and all around less of a hassle for me. I'll be posting up some of the old stuff that I still kind of like just for posterity.

Black Widow

I'm not sure what my fascination with Black Widow is but in thinking of something to draw for the blog, this came out. There are perspective problems with the gun and magazines ... probably with the figure too while I'm at it. One of these days I will put some more thought into what I'm going to do before I draw it.

*Edit: I changed her right foot. It was kind of reading as a stump so I went for a safer angle. And added her bracelet to make her more Black Widow-y.

Iron Man

I didn't have any real design idea when I started this. I was just having fun pushing shapes around. Well it started out fun then got frustrating when I realized it was all over the place. It's wildly inconsistent but it's done as far as I'm concerned.

Darkseid and Misc Superman/Batman Apocalypse Characters

The Green Lantern animated series is winding down. As I was clearing space off of my computer I found this Darkseid turn we did for Superman/Batman Apocalypse back from the DTVs. I did the initial design and Jeff Johnson did the actual turn.

When we were going through the approval process, we were instructed to make his head bigger. But director Lauren Montgomery decided to revert him back to the original "small head" version when she did her attitude sheets. That's why she is a badass in my book haha.

I've adjusted the model and proportions to the longer and less squat version and did a quick shadow treatment on it.

The second is a page of initial sketches for the Furies (Guilotina, Mad Harriet, Lashina, and Stompa). Based off of Michael Turner's designs from the comic book.

The third is a page of other secondary characters (Granny Goodness, Treasure, Harbinger, and Artemis) again based off of Michael Turner's designs.

The last is Doomsday.

Tron

I always seem to finally get around to doing a drawing of something that has passed it's hype window. I actually sketched this before the movie had come out and only had what little I could find on the internet as reference so a lot of this is made up and way off model. I'll probably tweak this a bit more once I can see straight again. For now I'm tired of looking at it!

Aang

Easter 3 day weekend. I'm rested and thought I would draw something for my little nephews to color. They LOOOVES their Avatar! Looking at it now I'm wondering if the spikey spears will be okay with their Mom.

Spidey and Doc Ock

I'm going up to Vancouver tomorrow to visit my sister and her adorable boys. Kirk, my brother-in-law informed me their oldest son Kai, REALLY wanted a Spiderman drawing. So, in trying to be a good uncle, I drew one up semi quick. The idea was to make it cute but muscle memory kicked in and Spidey got kind of sinewy... Well it's cutish!

I'm sure I'll see how grotesque it probably actually is in a month or so once I can see it for what it is.

Wonder Woman and Big Barda Turns

Wonder Woman and Big Barda turns for the Superman/Batman Apocalypse DTV. Based off of Michael Turner's designs.

Jeff Johnson did this turn on Barda with some touch ups from me. Especially the face since she was my favorite of this movie and I had a pretty specific look I was trying to get.

Supergirl Turn

Superman/Batman Apocalypse hit the shelves last Tuesday. I had the good fortune to be asked to do the designs for this movie. Even though I don't consider myself a character designer, it was a lot of fun and a lot of stress trying to emulate Michael Turner's style. Special thanks goes out to Jeff Johnson for doing a ton of the heavy lifting with the finishes, turns and, and incidental designs.

Produced and Directed by Lauren Montgomery.

I'll post the other main characters once I finish my work for the week.

Weapon X

Wolverine: Brown suit. Even though this is in black and white..... I haven't followed a comicbook series in the last ten plus years, but the other day I was reminded of Chris Claremont and Paul Smith's run on the X-Men. That era was my introduction to the series and, for me, the definitive group and look. So I had to draw Wolverine in the brown suit and in keeping with the nostalgia, he had to be fighting some ninjas.

Widow

Natasha Romanoff/Natalia Romanova aka Black Widow. I thought it would be a good idea to spend a little more time and do some forced perspective with a background. It turned out not to be such a good idea considering how much time I spent nitpicking "is the hand was too small or the foot?", "are the windows too big?", "why isn't the gesture swooping as much as I want?", "ugh, I can't figure that shape out at this angle!" type of neuroses...

My buddy Jimmy Tran was kind enough to color this pic. Check it out!

Shadowknight

While trying in vain to tidy up my messy condo, I stumbled accross a xerox of a sketch I started some six years ago when I was heavily into Everquest. I did the sketch after finally getting the Stone Etched War Sword from the Plane of Earth. It was a sword I remember seeing on my first week of playing that only one guy on our entire server had. I remember asking him about it and from that day, gaining that sword became a personal goal, benchmark, and gauge for when my Dark Elf Shadowknight, Cyclonos had arrived. Such good memories.

I changed up the drawing a good bit, but at least it's semi done and I can put my Shadowknight to rest :p

Tofu

Things have been pretty busy with work and life so I'm cheating and putting up an image I did about a year ago.

This was done for the last issue of a fan publication my friend Jen Chan coordinates called Tofu. Many years ago there were these anime fan gatherings of artists and budding artists who primarily met online. We would meet up occasionally at conventions like AX in Los Angeles and others around the world. At some point (well before I was ever involved) artists from some of the major cities decided it would be a good idea to have local get togethers to draw and have fun. It got so big they decided to make a yearly "jam" book to self publish and share at the annual conventions. Since then, members have grown up, gotten jobs, moved on etc. and these clubs have since disappeared. Jen decided to do one last publication for her Toronto chapter for old times sakes so I had to contribute.

The theme was of course tofu so I did a naked Ursula from Breath of Fire IV (because I was looking through the artbook and thought she looked awesome) with some floating tofu ...... I'm so creative I know. Looking at this now, I realized I made her ears WAY too short so if anyone has this book, sorry for the short ears :( Fixed tho on the blog, yeah!

Undead Warrior

I have finally gotten my MMO addiction semi under control after spending many many years playing. Here is a drawing of my retired undead warrior from World of Warcraft. This is mostly wishful thinking and items that I thought were cool looking. I wasn't actually good enough to get those shoulder pads but I drew them anyways. Stupid game....

Samus Aran

Has it really been a year? Yikes!!!

So yeah, the suit is a total cheat, there is no way she would fit in there haha. Thank the lord for photoshop, so much tweaking was done from the original pencils. One day I will try to color ...... once I get to drawing more than one piece a year ..... Baby steps :(

Kuk and Pig

I can't draw likeness' of people to save my life but I wanted to do a drawing of my super cute little nephew, Kai. He always carries around his little blanket which he refers to as "pig" and wants my sister to draw him pictures of trucks which he can't fully say yet so he says "kuk". I intended to make him look more curious, but somehow he ended up looking sad.

Touch

This was lying around in my sketchbook and done around the time I was reminiscing about highschool and all the "emo" (is that what the cool kids call it nowadays?) stuff I was into back then. As a reaction to the online, "Emo Authorities" that commented that my first image wasn't goth enough. I was going to do something extra sterotypical and sensative .... but I got lazy and never got past the figures.

Sitting

I am so fried from work but at least the deadline is OVER. My brain is still numb and recovering, I think i need a break from drawing. Thankfully i have a trip lined up to go visit my sister in Australia for two weeks wuwu! I can't wait to see my little nephew again, he's the cutest thing EVER!

Grey

A lot of sentimental things sparked this drawing. Nostalgia overtook me and a piece that doesn't reflect much of it came into being. The essences seem to be much grander than what came out saddly. Blaqk Audio, a conversation with a friend, a memory, Dream, Death, spring of 89, petticoats, a funeral, the Cure ..... mediocre conceptual execution on the drawing :(

I added black to his clothes since some people commented that this wasn't "gothy" enough.

Hooded Mantis

This is a design i did for ..... myself ..... of the character called ...... Hooded Mantis .....Guy. Once again i had no idea what i was going to draw. Semi inspired in a subconcious way by what i remember of a Masked Riders book my friend Ron, er Vim, lent me while I was doing some development work a year ago.

I also just want to say a quick "Hi!" to old friends who stopped by and left nice comments (and one punkish DC guy that use to be on 21 Jump Street). I am so slammed with work at the moment and closing in on the last few weeks of this dang project, i haven't had time to properly email you guys! It's really heartwarming seeing your names again!
